Young Entrepreneur Takes a New Approach to Technical Support
19-Year-Old Ryan Heath of Austin, TX started a web-based computer support business “MyAustinGeek” focused on standing apart from many existing IT services. MyAustinGeek provides personalized services including making computers greener.
Dec 21, 2008 Ryan Heath, a 19-year-old living in Austin, Texas, has recently launched a small online technical support business to stand out from the existing large corporations he has experience working for. He differentiates himself by providing personalized service for his customers, giving them the geek they need to get through this technormous world. While the business is based in Austin, services can be provided anywhere using remote-control technology. One service provided is a “Green PC” service, which in Austin, considered a very “green” city, should become a very popular service. MyAustinGeek has launched their website, conveniently found at http://www.MyAustinGeek.com/
Ryan grew up around computers, and eventually became a technical support representative for AT&T. From there he moved to Austin and started at Telenetwork, a company that provides technical support to ISP customers. Then he moved up to Unisys, working as an agent for Business Objects, helping employees of the company with their computer and server needs. eventually landing at SupportSoft, a company that provides mostly remote support, and has grown to be huge in the past year.
After working for all of these companies, Ryan learned more than he needed to start his own business. He took what he loved about each job with him and started MyAustinGeek.com a few months ago. He had no large amount of money or investors to help with the startup, he started up with less than $100 out of his own pocket. His team consists of previous coworkers.
He wanted to make sure it was different from what he had been doing before, which brings along personalized service. Most companies have hundreds of representatives that sound like robots, will only help within a certain “scope” of support, and you get a different one every time you call. Most of them these days aren't even in the US. With MyAustinGeek, you get one geek to work with, someone you can call at any time in the future to help you with any technological issues.
Apart from the typical services involving computer repair, problem resolution, viruses, etc. MyAustinGeek has a “Green Your PC” service in which by remotely controlling your computer over the internet, your geek can make changes to your computer to save energy, paying for itself in the end.
