Becoming a successful entrepreneur can be a difficult task, especially in rough economic times.

To help prospective risk takers, launchup.org is a new organization that aims to assist entrepreneurs in becoming successful in their businesses. Created by Jeremy Hanks, launchup.org is an evolving organization that hopes to bring together the community to help build successful businesses.

Hanks compares launchup.org to the act of barn raising, which occurred when members of the community came together to help assemble a barn. This practice took place in rural America in the 18th and 19th centuries.

“They didn’t have all the power or knowledge to build the barn, and the same kind of idea is true for launchup.org,” Hanks said.

Through launchup.org, prospective entrepreneurs can get advice, tips and additional help with their business venture. Even though they may not have all of the knowledge to “build the barn,” they can still take advantage of its existence.

According to Hanks’ blog at launchup.org, “LaunchUp.org is going to help entrepreneurs in new ways,” he said. It will be a community-based advisory board that will help users with networking and ideas.

“It’s a way to help get some companies launched, or help existing companies launch past problems to new levels,” Hanks’ blog continued.

Launchup.org has taken a technology focus to entrepreneurship because, “that’s how you’re going to solve the problems of the world,” Hanks said.

To help businesses and entrepreneurs in their endeavors, launchup.org sponsored its first event Wednesday in Orem. Listeners learned about how to become a successful entrepreneurs, and even got advice from those in the field. The event was live streamed online, and users from all over Utah contributed to the event by asking questions and giving advice.

One particular entrepreneur, Ben Peterson, is a BYU alumnus us who is successfully pursuing a career in business with a company he created, called human services HQ. His words of advice to entrepreneur hopefuls was “focus on what I like to call PPC,” he said. “That stands for priorities, people and cash.”

For those interested in learning more about entrepreneurship or launchup.org, it will be holding its next event on April 22 at 6 p.m. Those interested in attending can visit launchup.org to rsvp, or to learn more.
